LJ Alleman Guitar Family Jam & Reunion

Tuesday, April 1, 2014  from 5:30-7:30


This event honors music in our families, our community, and our state.  Students required to attend. OUR BIG MUSIC FAMILY projects will be on display.


JAMBALAYA and other refreshments available.


5:30: Jams start. Cajun jam led by Mitchell Reed and the UL Lafayette Cajun Music Ensemble, a rock/blues jam led by Chad Viator, and classical jam led by Louisiana Classical Guitar Society. An open mic area will also be set up.  


6:30: Stage show in the cafeteria will include outstanding guitar students performing with their families:  Janson Matte with Travis Matte and Jamie Bearb, Ashley Dugas with Kevin Dugas, Alyse Young with Danny LaHaye, the UL Louisiana Cajun Music Ensemble and the Lafayette Hight School Guitar III Ensemble.


Proceeds from the event benefit the Guitar Program at LJ Alleman.

Practice and homework assignments are posted weekly and linked to my lesson plans. Click the HOMEWORK button on the left hand menu.


Practice times:

Guitar I - 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week

Guitar II - 40 minutes per day, 5 days per week

Guitar III & IV - 45 minutes per day, 5 days per wk

Practice sessions should include:

  • warm up (finger patterns, scales, chord progressions) - 1/4 of the practice time
  • new and familiar repertoire - at least half of the practice time
  • students' choice repertoire - 1/4 of the practice time

Practicing in front of family members is encouraged.
